Senior Associate / Special Counsel – Employment Law – Gold Coast

Are you an experienced Employment Lawyer – Senior Associate or Special Counsel (5+ years PAE) and either living, or would like to live, on the Gold Coast?  If so, we have an excellent opportunity for you to join our boutique Employment Law firm in our Gold Coast office.

The position is available for an immediate start, or we are willing to be flexible for the right person.  It is a full-time position, or it can be part-time initially with the willingness and ability to progress to full-time. 

What can you expect from this position?

  • Working only with Employers 
  • Working on interesting and challenging matters 
  • Providing practical strategic advice to clients across all facets of employment law including performance management, termination, redundancies, workplace bullying, sexual harassment, workplace health and safety, managing injured employees, preparing employment contracts and workplace policies, and negotiating / drafting enterprise agreements
  • Defending clients in litigation matters such as unfair dismissal, general protection, discrimination and underpayment claims
  • Undertaking workplace investigations for clients
  • Managing your own matters under supervision and working directly with clients to deliver excellence and build strong ongoing relationships 
  • Working with businesses of varying sizes, from small family businesses to large private corporations across all industries, as well as working with State and Local Government bodies
  • Involvement in business development opportunities, including presenting seminars, webinars, writing articles, attending networking events and working closely with our Client Relationship & Marketing Manager to develop a strong brand within the industry
  • Working with a supportive and collaborative team of lawyers and support staff who are invested in their work, and many of whom have 10+ years’ service with the firm because it is a wonderful place to work
  • Mentoring from specialist employment lawyers, including Accredited Specialists in Workplace Relations Law, to ensure that you continue to develop your legal skills and broaden your experience 

To be successful in the role, you will need:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in employment law with employers in Australia
  • A genuine passion for employment law and for becoming a true specialist in this area of law
  • A strong work ethic and excellent time management and communication skills
  • A proactive approach to delivering practical and strategic solutions to solve complex legal issues and do so within client time frames
  • The knowledge and experience to be able to provide sound advice to clients in face-to-face meetings or telephone conferences
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the enthusiasm and willingness to provide mentoring to junior lawyers 
  • A desire to always deliver excellence to our clients 

The following would be beneficial for the role:

  • experience working with public sector clients, in particular Queensland Government and Local Government; and/or
  • being an Accredited Specialist in Workplace Relations Law
